985 Nerds Episode 9: KB3ZIM, Bobb Rayner

Bobb Rayner on QRZ

Bobb worked in the broadcasting/radio-television/promotion/public relations industries for all his working life, with more than half of the time working as a self-employed contractor/freelancer, including producing and hosting his own automotive television program series.  He also traveled all over the USA and Canada for fifteen years as a narrator/product specialist on the international auto show circuit, along with over twenty years as an on-air product presenter of consumer electronics products on the QVC television shopping network.

As a youngster, he really enjoyed listening to DX AM broadcast stations with his pocket transistor radio, which got him seriously interested in radio.  At twelve years of age, he showed an interest in amateur radio, so his dad bought him a ham radio study book (which he still has today), and he obtained cassette tapes to learn Morse Code.  Unfortunately, he never went for a license test until he was 59 years old! Within a little over a year after earning his Technician license, he upgraded to Amateur Extra Class, and since then, he’s been enjoying over ten years of operating as he tries to “make up for lost time” on the amateur bands!
