Bob Wick was first licensed in 1968 at age 14 as WN3JYT later becoming WA3JYT. He and Bert, WA3JYU. passed their Novice exams the same day. One of the original Friday Nighter’s, Bob still remains “close” to his life-long Pennsylvania friends.
Spending ALL his summers on Long Beach Island, he moved to the Jersey shore in the ’70’s – (which back then required a call change to the “2” district) and became N2HM. Local hams and church friends thought this was a vanity call: “November 2 Heathkit Museum” and “In 2 HIM” respectively, but no, THAT call simply was assigned.
He was director and engineer for Manahawkin Baptist Church cable T.V. and Radio ministries from 1976 through 1981.
A “T.V. Repairman” from 1968 until 1986, it became apparent that was a dying trade. Part-time employment at New Jersey Network (N.J. Public Television) began February 1985 – in the transmitter division – became fulltime in November of the same year. Subsequently he spent 5 years at the South-Jersey News Bureau as ‘sound-tech’ / fotog / editor. Following sign-on of WYRS (an all volunteer, non profit Christian Radio station), he was reassigned to Trenton – as fotog / editor / livetruck / satellite truck operator, and (as needed) engineering. The State Legislature terminated NJN on June 30, 2011, and after 26.5 years Bob was forcibly retired.
The majority of his time is now devoted to WYRS Broadcasting (WYRS 90.7, WLNJ 91.7, and five translators. https://wyrs.org). Bob enjoys sailing “IFIS” -“It Floats It Sails”, and (surprise surprise) ham radio.
