Ron Medykiewicz (pronounced “metta-KEV-vitch”), WA3VEE, has been a ham for over 50 years. He was born in Wilmington, DE, but has lived in PA since 1985. Ron retired after 39 years as an electrical engineer with Hewlett-Packard and then Agilent and then taught electrical engineering at Delaware Technical Community College in Newark, DE. Ron met his wife Deb at HP in 1978. Ron and Deb are married 39 years, live in West Chester and have two sons. Chris, KB3MNA, lives in Kimberton, PA and Michael who lives in Mount Joy, PA. Both sons are Eagle Scouts. There is one granddog (Tucker), a niecedog (Cinnamon) and a niecekitty (Pretty Kitty), who lovingly helps Ron whenever he hosts the Workbench and Roundtable on 985.

Besides ham radio, Ron is also deeply passionate about teaching, mentoring, and sharing. He is an avid outdoors enthusiast, semi-pro photographer, traveler, woodworker,  cyclist and DIY’er. He loves electronics, has a well-equipped electronics lab, and enjoys building and fixing older test equipment and radio gear.

In his retirement, Ron is giving back in gratitude for a rewarding career and wonderful experiences in amateur radio and Scouting. Although never a youth scout, Ron has been an adult scout leader for nearly 27 years and says his most rewarding volunteer job ever, was being a Scoutmaster. He and his K3DTS team awarded 66 Radio Merit Badges in 2023. Ron is a US Army Signal Corps veteran and a Senior Life Member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE).

Whenever he needs to pause a QSO he is having, his favorite saying is “Let’s put a ‘bookmark’ there and pick it up later.” Look for Ron the 146.985 Parkesburg, PA repeater. He is waiting to have a great QSO with you!
